2009 has been a great year for Tickled Pink, thanks to supportive customers like you! I've enjoyed getting to know you and creating cupcakes for your special events. Unfortunately, 2010 will bring some changes for my family and for Tickled Pink.

Tickled Pink will close permanently and officially on February 28, 2010.

Why? My family will be relocating out of the Dayton area and will not be returning. Tickled Pink may re-open in a new location, but that is yet to be determined.

If you would like to place an order before our closing, please call as soon as possible to get on our calendar. We will only be accepting orders for January and February 2010. Thank you again for all of your support. We've enjoyed every minute!

The trout were shaped out of fondant by hand and painted with edible silver paint.

I really enjoyed making these- such a fun little project!

Adelaide's First Birthday

This weekend, our dear friends threw a first birthday party for their daughter Adelaide. It was a sweet occasion, as Adelaide was born prematurely last year at 26 weeks. How thankful we all were to celebrate her first year of life!

The cake was based on the colors for the party and the birthday girl's polka dot dress.

The 10-inch cake was chocolate with vanilla frosting and fondant decorations.

Here's to many more years of health and happiness for Adelaide!

Creepy Cupcakes

I showed you a few Halloween cupcakes yesterday, but this order was extra creepy!

First up- vampire bites. Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and edible blood! The blood is made by mixing corn syrup, red food coloring and cocoa powder.

Looks creepy, no? (I think these would also be super fun for a Twilight party!!)

And brains! These are also red velvet with cream cheese and edible blood. The brains are made of colored melting chocolates.

I don't know if I could stomach actually eating these babies.. the blood looks pretty authentic. What do you think?

These girly cupcakes were for a second birthday celebration for a little cupcake lover here in Dayton.

The spiral design on the circles was made with a rubber embossing pad. I loved using it- I think they're my new favorite tool! I'll be getting some more patterns to try out soon.

The S Wedding

It's always fun to be part of special occasions, but weddings are even more special. Last weekend, Tickled Pink was a part of the S family's big day, and we were honored.

The bride and groom chose three flavors: Midnight Snack, Great Pumpkin and the Aztec.

At the center of each table was a personalized cake stand, made by the bride herself. Each one was a little bit different- such a cool idea!

In lieu of a cake stand, cupcakes were lined up along the front of the head table.

We were also fortunate enough to make a cutting cake for the bride and groom!

The cake was covered in white fondant with pearls, complete with a photo of the bride and groom and gum paste roses.

Anniversaries are sweet, aren't they?

These cupcakes were made for a 62nd anniversary celebration- what an amazing milestone! My husband, who is very handy, made the miniature bell cutter by hand. (He helps me make just about any shape I need- so don't hesitate to order something you think might be hard to create!) The silver discs were painted with edible silver shimmer dust.

Things have been crazy at Tickled Pink since I returned from my vacation to Italy. The first order I had when I got back was a huge order for a student organization at University of Dayton. We replicated their emblem, the "Flyer Pig," in fondant on top of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. Here are some photos that the ladies sent me from their event:

Tickled Pink Loves the 80s!

I know my updates have been few and far between lately, but there's been a lot going on in the Tickled Pink world! I'm going to get you all caught up this week on my latest projects, post some blackout dates for the rest of 2009, and include some other fun posts over the next few weeks, so look forward to hearing more from us!

These cupcakes were for an 80's themed birthday party. The two cupcake types were based on the cartoons "Strawberry Shortcake" and "Rainbow Brite." I'm not quite advanced enough yet to mold cartoon characters, so I just picked some fun designs.

Strawberry Shortcake themed cupcakes with fondant strawberries and little pink hats (Strawberry Shortcake has a famously large pink hat).

The cupcakes were my strawberry shortcake flavor as well- vanilla cake with strawberry filling and vanilla buttercream.

I wish I could have gotten an inside shot of these cupcakes for you! They were vanilla cake, but I used food coloring and layered the colors of the rainbow in the cake. This isn't my picture, but here's a good idea of what the inside of these cupcakes looked like:

This weekend, I got to do a really fun race car cake for a fourth birthday party with a race car theme. The cake was inspired by a similar 5th birthday cake over at Cake Journal. I thought it was a great idea and I had to go with it!

Of course, Car #4 was the winner!

All of the decorations are made out of marshmallow fondant. The base cake is chocolate with vanilla frosting.

This was such a fun cake for me. I hope to do a lot more fun kid themed cakes!

How to Unwrap a Tickled Pink Cupcake

Because we use special cupcake papers, sometimes my customers wonder how to open their Tickled Pink cupcakes. Fear not- I've made a little tutorial!

1. Before the cupcakes come to you, I snip them with scissors.

2. When your cupcakes arrive, find the place where the wrapper is snipped.

3. Tear the wrapper.

4. The cupcake should be easily removable from the torn wrapper.

5. Take a bite and enjoy!

Key Lime Pie Cupcakes

Tickled Pink is taking a few days off, headed for Florida for an anniversary vacation. In honor of the trip, I wanted to make something very Florida - Key Lime Pie Cupcakes!

The cupcake consists of key lime pie cake, key lime curd, key lime buttercream, and a candied key lime on top! I may have gone a little crazy with the key limes, but I'm not sure yet.. I'll let you know what my tasters in Florida think!

Pink Ribbon Cupcakes

Pink Barbie Cake

Barbie cakes have been very popular lately! I did my first Barbie cake about a month ago, so this time I was a little more comfortable with the process. I went with a theme of pinks and pearls.

I gave her a little train and some ruffles in the back. The texture on the front of the dress was made by pressing a scalloped fondant shaper into the dress.

There were pearl accents on the bodice and the hem of the skirt. I also gave her a full set of pearl jewelry including a necklace, bracelet and ring. All of the pearls were hand-formed from fondant.

Pastel Rainbow Frosting

These are some chocolate and vanilla cupcakes that I worked on this week- my largest order yet! There were 200 cupcakes in all. To make things a little more interesting, I used a little color*, creating a pastel rainbow of cupcakes.

This idea was somewhat inspired by the Martha Stewart Living cover (February '09).

I saw the magazine in my office and thought it would be a little more interesting than plain vanilla frosting. What do you think?

*I used Wilton Icing colors from their 12 pack. These are readily available at crafts stores, cake supply stores, and even Wal-Mart!

Cake Batter Ice Cream Cupcakes

Summer is here, and I know no better way to celebrate than with cupcakes.
But these aren't just any cupcakes.. they're Ice Cream Cupcakes!

These are cupcakes of the yummiest kind - a vanilla cake layer, a layer of vanilla ice cream with cake mixed in, and then sprinkles to top it all off. Classic celebration flavors!

There are endless possibilities for ice cream cupcakes - use whatever cake, ice cream and mix-ins you'd like. If it weren't for transportation issues (I took these to a picnic today), I would have added some marshmallow or whipped cream on these babies as well!

These are also my entry for the Ice Cream Cupcake Challenge 2009, hosted by Cupcake Project and Scoopalicious. For me, there's no better marriage of ice cream and cupcakes than to put the cake right into the ice cream, then put it on top of more cake. Talk about delicious!

Steps for Cake Batter Ice Cream Cupcakes (not really a recipe..)

Components:
your favorite cake recipe (vanilla here)
your favorite ice cream flavor (vanilla as well)
mix-ins and toppings for your ice cream (crumbled cake and sprinkles!)

Steps:
1. Bake the cupcakes, filling the cups 1/4 full so there's room for the ice cream. Cool completely.
2. Mix ice cream and mix-ins.
3. Top cool cupcakes with ice cream. Freeze.
4. Top with any remaining goodies, freeze. Pull out just before serving. Enjoy!!

Cupcake Madness in PA

Last week was a cupcake bonanza in Pennsylvania. I baked around 16-17 dozen cupcakes in 15 different flavors. It was definitely an experience! Here are some of the cupcakes, waiting to be frosted..

Iron Cupcake Earth Entries: Soda Pop!

This month's Iron Cupcake: Earth challenge is Soda Pop. This was an interesting one for me because I only started drinking soda about a year ago.. and even so, I really only like it flat. I'm not a big fan of carbonation, I used to gag on it as a kid! I guess I was extra motivated to learn how to bake with it, because I made three different recipes..

Grapefruit Soda Cake with Lemon Curd Filling and Champagne Frosting

Fufu Berry Soda Cake with Lemon Frosting and Fufu Berry Glaze

I went sorta crazy with the sodas, but I thought it would be fun to try a few new things. I discovered that there are a whole world of uniquely flavored sodas that I didn't even know about. (I also found that I love the taste of birch beer.) I haven't gotten a chance to try all of the cupcakes, but I'll let you know which one is my favorite, and I'll give you a heads up when you can start voting! Here's this month's prize pack:

Grapefruit Soda Cupcakes
makes 12 cupcakes

zest of one grapefruit
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 cup Grapefruit Soda (I used IZZE)
two drops red food coloring

Put sugar in a small bowl and massage zest into sugar with your fingers. Cream butter and sugar/zest mixture in a mixer with the paddle attachment. Add eggs one at a time. Alternate dry ingredients (flour-salt) and wet ingredients (soda, food coloring) into 2-3 additions. Don't overmix. Fill cups 1/2-2/3 full, bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. For more flavor, poke holes into cooled cupcakes with a fork and drizzle 1 tsp of soda on each cupcake. Wait before frosting.

Lemon Curd

Champagne Frosting
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
3 to 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon Champagne Syrup (throw some champagne and powdered sugar in a saucepan and reduce, then cool before using)

Mix all ingredients and 2 cups sugar 3-5 minutes. Gradually add remaining sugar, one cup at a time- beat 2 minutes after each cup.

Chocolate Birch Beer Cupcakes
makes 13-16 cupcakes

1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup Birch Beer (I used Boylan's Red Birch Beer)

Place all ingredients into a large bowl and mix until combined. Fill cupcake cups 1/2-2/3 full. Bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes. For more flavor, poke holes into cooled cupcakes with a fork and drizzle 1 tsp of soda on each cupcake. Wait before frosting.

Birch Beer Buttercream
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
3 to 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 tbs Birch Beer Syrup (throw some birch beer and powdered sugar in a saucepan and reduce, then cool before using)

Mix all ingredients and 2 cups sugar 3-5 minutes. Gradually add remaining sugar, one cup at a time- beat 2 minutes after each cup.

Fufu Berry Cupcakes
makes 12 cupcakes

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 cup Jones Fufu Berry Soda
eight drops red food coloring
2 tsp maraschino cherry juice

Cream butter and sugar/zest mixture in a mixer with the paddle attachment. Add eggs one at a time. Alternate dry ingredients (flour-salt) and wet ingredients (soda, food coloring) into 2-3 additions. Don't overmix. Fill cups 1/2-2/3 full, bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. For more flavor, poke holes into cooled cupcakes with a fork and drizzle 1 tsp of soda on each cupcake. Wait before frosting.

Lemon Buttercream
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
3 to 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract

Mix all ingredients and 2 cups sugar 3-5 minutes. Gradually add remaining sugar, one cup at a time- beat 2 minutes after each cup.

Fufu Berry Glaze
Mix a few tablespoons Fufu Berry Soda 1/4 cup powdered sugar. Whisk until combined. For a thicker glaze, add more sugar.

(The primary reason I'm coming to PA is for dental work.. but that's besides the point. Maybe I'm eating too many sweets?) I am very excited about this opportunity and can't wait to share my creations in my home state! Here's some info for those of you who would like to place an order:

I will be arriving on Tuesday, May 12. Cupcakes will be available for delivery on Wednesday, May 13, Thursday May 14, and the morning of Friday, May 15.

Cupcake Shipping Considerations

Congratulations again to my winners! I'm excited to start this little shipping adventure. I've been doing lots of research, and I've come up with a few methods I'd like to try based on some other companies who are selling mail order cupcakes.

I wanna get one of this tasty cupcakes to your door. (Pictured: The Southern Belle)

Best Shipping Methods to Consider:
1. Cupcakes flash frozen, frosted. Place in small, secure box, with lollipop sticks, packed with dry ice packs.
2. Cupcakes flash frozen, frosted. Place in box, wrap in foil, with plastic straws and reinforcements, pack in ice.
3. Cupcakes at room temp, frosted. Place in plastic 1/2 dozen cupcake holder, lollipop sticks, secure box.
4. Cupcakes at room temp, no frosting, individually wrapped. Small tubs of frosting and individual sprinkle bags, secure box.
5. Cupcakes at room temp, no frosting, unwrapped. Large tub of frosting secured in another box. Box converts into carrier. Tube of sprinkles.

Shippers to Consider:
UPS, USPS, DHL, FedEx. 2 Day shipping is most common.

Factors to Consider:
1. Do the cupcakes arrive in tact?
2. Do they retain their taste and texture?
3. Do they arrive on time?
4. Is the shipping method well-priced?

Hi! I would love to try the Pina Colada, Aztec and/or Strawberry Shortcake. They sound great.

Shipping cupcakes can be a crapshoot. Good packing helps. But, the shipper can turn your cupcakes into a mess with poor temperature control, abusive handlers and delayed shipping.

I would prefer to frost my own cupcakes because they would arrive less messy. On the other hand, I could never replicate the swirl and touch of a skilled baker. They look so good in a display case. If they could arrive that way, it would be a miracle!

Tammi's Birthday Cake

My friend Tammi's birthday was on Easter Sunday this year. I decided to make her a little personal cake. It's chocolate cake with white chocolate and milk chocolate chips, and chocolate frosting. Chocolate overload!

I decorated the cake with fresh flowers.. they looked so lovely and springy, I had to use them!

The cupcake has a vanilla cake base, a cookie dough center, cookie dough frosting and a chocolate chip cookie on top. There's a lot going on, but everything needs to work together. Cake Bites: What to do with leftover cake

Sometimes at Tickled Pink, we end up with a little leftover cake, and nothing to do with it. Thanks to Bakerella, the queen of cake balls and cake pops, we've got a solution.

The recipe is pretty basic, and you can change it or dress it up and make it whatever you want. All you need is some cake, some frosting, and some chocolate or candy melts for dipping. The basic steps:

1. Crumble your leftover cake. 2. Mix cake crumbs with some frosting. 3. Form cake "dough" into little balls. 4. Place on a cookie sheet and freeze for a little while. 5. Melt chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave. Drop cake balls into chocolate, coat evenly, and place on parchment paper-lined baking sheet to set. Trim any edges and serve!

These cake balls were made with leftover carrot cake, cream cheese frosting, and white chocolate candy melts. They look like little snowballs- great for a winter party!
So yummy! It's a great use for extra cake, easily customizable, and a nice, bite-sized treat. What cake bite flavor would you like to try?

Solar System Birthday Cupcakes

I didn't realize how little I knew about the solar system until yesterday, when I made this set of birthday cupcakes for a 5th birthday. I wanted the planets to be somewhat accurate, so I actually had to learn about them! It was a lot of fun!

Top Row: Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Uranus.
Middle Row: Neptune (a pretty boring planet, right?), Ethan's cupcake, Sun, Mercury.
Bottom Row: Comet, Venus, Earth, the Moon.

A close-up of Mars. I did the indentations with various pastry tips to get the crater effect.

These cupcakes were a great project- lots of fun for me, not to mention educational (I should have paid more attention in Science class..). The more experience with fondant, the better!

Business Cards: Does the Circle get the Square?

So after my attempt at business cards (here), Keith created a few options for me. His first love is the circle business card, but I've gotten a little feedback saying that the circle business card is impractical. We want to have something that's still creative and memorable, so Keith thought of the square with rounded edges.

What do you think? Would a circle business card be creative enough to hold on to, or would you end up throwing it away because it doesn't fit in your wallet?

Iron Cupcake Challenge: SunButter Cupcakes!

Iron Cupcake: Earth. Sounds awesome, right? It totally is.

This month is my first ICE (Iron Cupcake Earth) Challenge. This month's special ingredient is nuts and seeds. I didn't want to do a plain jane peanut butter cupcake, so I decided to switch it up with some sunbutter, which is essentially a puree of sunflower seeds. It's a great alternative to peanut butter if you're allergic, and I just love the taste!

The finished product: SunButter Cupcakes with Sweet Honey Frosting and SunButter Drizzle.

SunButter Cupcakes
(makes 12)

1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup SunButter, room temp
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Sift dry ingredients.

In mixer, beat butter, sunbutter and brown sugar, about 1 minute. Mix in egg. Add vanilla and beat until smooth.

Add flour in 3 additions and milk in 2 additions.

Fill cupcake cups atleast half-way full They rise a little, but not too much). Bake 20-25 minutes.

Sweet Honey Frosting

adapted from Honey and Jam (you may need to double this to cover all of your cupcakes, especially if you use as much frosting as I do!)

1-2 cups confectioners' sugar

1 stick butter

1 tbs honey

In a stand mixer, cream butter until smooth. Add 1 cup sugar and honey and mix well. Add additional sugar until you reach desired consistency.

SunButter Drizzling Sauce
adapted from AboutPeanuts.com
(also great for ice cream sundaes!)
-makes about 1/2 cup

2 tbs SunButter
2 tbs heavy cream
1 tbs sugar
1 tbs corn syrup
1/2 tbs butter
1/4 tbs vanilla

Heat all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk well, while heating, until combined. Let cool before drizzling over cupcakes.

It seems like just yesterday that I was a student at Temple, working like crazy on my first entrepreneurial venture- PRowl PR. PRowl is Temple's student-run PR firm, and my little baby. Tickled Pink Cupcake Favors

Today was Miss Julie's (#2!) shower, and it was a lovely time. I did cupcakes as favors for the shower: individual boxes with the Happy Bunny inside!

I think this is a really great way to serve cupcakes at parties. Especially if there's lots of food- this is a nice way to provide dessert without forcing people to eat it. I made the boxes out of pink cardstock, and made the labels, as well. Julie's doing an aquarium theme in her nursery, so I added the little fish!

In lieu of business cards, I decided to put a little Tickled Pink label inside of the box. It worked out great, and hopefully I'll get some new business from it. Now all I have to do is register the business, fill out some paperwork, and then Tickled Pink will be a real business!

This morning, I finished up a little order for my family and a few ladies in my dad's office,including the Granola Girl, the Buckeye, the Creamsicle, the Caramel Apple and the Little Devil. Nick is heading out to see them this weekend (I can't go- I have orders! :) ), so he gets to drop them off. The car ride is a little long, so I made him a little snack: the PB&J, one of my favorites. Just thought I'd share a picture with you!

Business Cards, Flavors, Pricing.. My Brain Hurts!

I've been pretending to be a graphic designer today.

My day has been spent working on a flavor/pricing brochure and a business card, and soon I'll be moving on to a cupcake order form. It's amazing how much time and energy it takes to create these things! It's enjoyable, overall -I've had to teach myself the programs along the way, but it's a good skill to have.

Here's a quick preview of the business card:

The colors in the logo will be a little different, so this isn't the final product, but I thought I'd give you a little preview of what I've been up to.

We've got an exciting week ahead, including baby shower cupcake favors and lots of fun flavors. Oh- and Happy St. Pat's! Make yourself some Shamrock Shake Cupcakes to celebrate. :)

What now?

On Friday, I got a letter from the 2nd Street Market, the local market in Dayton that I planned to become a vendor at to start up the business. Here's what it said:

"The National City 2nd Street Market vendor selection committee has reviewed your application for the inclusion of the Tickled Pink Cupcakery at the Market. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept you as a vendor due to limited space and the number of other vendor requests that are under review.

The status of our current vendors changes at times and if this results in an opening that would be appropriate for your product, we will contact you. We commend you for your entrepreneurial spirit and we wish you good luck with future endeavors.

Thank you for your interest in the National City 2nd Street Market. Your application will be kept in the active file."

As you can see, I'm left in the dark about the reason that I wasn't accepted. I sent an email to the Market Manager yesterday, and haven't heard back yet. I'd like to get some feedback. Not accepting me because there isn't any room is different than not accepting me because they didn't like the cupcakes.

But, I press on. I've had such good reviews from everyone that's had them so far that I still want to pursue the business. Here are my options:

a) focus on special orders; i.e. weddings, birthdays, showers, corporate events, etc.
b) find another local market or retail location
c) create a mail-order system so my cupcakes can be enjoyed anywhere

What do you think? Should I keep looking for local retail opportunities, change my focus to events, or start mailing my cupcakes?

Shake It! The Shamrock Shake Cupcake Recipe

The Shamrock Shake Cupcakes were a hit at last night's book club. Some of the ladies were cupcake testers during the first few test runs, and they said these were even better than the first ones! Glad to know I'm improving as I go. I also got a cake order out of the night.. I don't mind expanding into full-sized cakes.. the more batter, the merrier.

Now, I promised I would post up the recipe if I got good reviews. So here we are, cupcake fans!

Shamrock Shake Cupcakes
(makes 2 dozen cupcakes)

For the Cake:
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour (if you don't have any, you can make your own)
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs, at room temperature
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons mint extract (regular mint, not peppermint)
few drops of green food coloring

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Combine flours in a large bowl.

3. In a stand mixer, cream butter and sugar, beat 3 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

4. Add flour in three parts, alternating with the milk/extracts in two.
5. Add food coloring until fulling incorporated, but don't overmix- a drop or two will do for a light green color.
6. Pour into baking cups.

7. Bake 20-25 minutes.

For the frosting:
2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
6-8 cups confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp mint extract
a few drops green food coloring

Cream butter, 4 cups sugar, milk, and mint. Add more sugar to reach desired consistency. Add food coloring until fully incorporated.

For the Fondant Shamrocks:
Find the fondant recipe I use here.

Add a bit of green food coloring (gel works better than liquid when working with fondant) and knead into your fondant, making sure to add plenty of powdered sugar to prevent it from sticking to your mat. When you reach the desired color, roll flat with a rolling pin to about 1/4''(I use a plastic fondant roller to reduce sticking). To make the shamrocks, I cut out a paper stencil and traced around it with a knife, then finished shaping it with my fingers. If you can find a small shamrock cutter, that would work, too.

If there are any specific questions, do ask! I've really shortened my recipe instructions lately since I've been baking so many cupcakes, so if you have questions about how to know when they're done or cooling/storing, etc, ask away!

How could I resist? I had to make a St. Patrick's Day cupcake. The Shamrock Shake Cupcake is a green mint cake with green mint icing.. super minty, just like a Shamrock Shake! I haven't tried to find a Shamrock Shake yet this season, but now, I don't think I have to. :) I'm serving them at my book club tonight- I'll let you know how they go over. If they get a good response, I'll be sure to put up the recipe!

Mod Mommy Baby Shower Cake and Cupcakes

I'm so excited to finally show you these pictures! Yesterday was my friend Julie's baby shower, hosted by Tammi and I. Julie had already had two baby showers (she's having a little boy!), so we wanted to do a little something different, and went with the green and orange theme. To go with, I made this small cake, and matching cupcakes.

This was actually my first time covering a cake with fondant. I've used fondant before, but only on cupcakes. I'm very pleased with the final product! (I used homemade fondant; click here for the recipe if you want to give it a try!)

These were the little cupcakes that matched the cake. Both the cake and cupcakes were coconut cake, but these got a nice pineapple cream cheese frosting and little fondant hearts.

Today, I'm working on a mini-cake and some cupcakes for a baby shower tomorrow. I want to share all of the ideas and pictures, but the guest of honor is a friend and I don't want to spoil the surprise! So, I'll divert your attention and show you some of the logos that Keith has been working on.

There are two versions. The first group are the main logos, for letterhead, brochure, important things where the name needs to be clear. Which do you like best?

The second one is for labels, t-shirts, etc. So cute, right? Keith is amazing!

Q: If I order a dozen cupcakes, how many flavors can I get?

A: The minimum order for any flavor is 1/2 dozen. So if you're ordering 1 dozen cupcakes, you can choose up to 2 flavors. (This excludes large orders and variety packs.)

Q: How do I care for my Tickled Pink cupcakes?

A: Tickled Pink cupcakes are made fresh to order, and many are flash cooled before delivery. Cupcakes with meringue topping or marshmallow frosting should always be kept at room temperature and are best eaten the day they are delivered. Cupcakes with buttercream frosting can be kept at room temperature, but the frosting is best preserved when kept in the refrigerator. We recommend removing the cupcakes from the fridge about 15-20 minutes before serving to allow them to come back to room temperature. Cupcakes with buttercream frosting are also best eaten on the day of delivery, but tend to last longer than cupcakes with marshmallow or meringue.

Q: How do I unwrap my Tickled Pink cupcake?

A: Opening your Tickled Pink cupcake is simple. Find the place where your cupcake liner has been snipped and tear away the liner. If you're having trouble opening it, feel free to dig in with a spoon!

Q: Does Tickled Pink have a store front?

A: Tickled Pink does not have a store front at this time. Tickled Pink cupcakes are currently available for delivery only.

Q: Can I order Tickled Pink cupcakes by mail?

A: We are currently working on strategies for sending our cupcakes, but they are not available by mail at this time. This is a long process, and we'll continue to update you as we make progress.

Q: Do you offer discounts for large orders and charities?

And so it began..

Welcome to the Tickled Pink blog! In case you haven't been following the Tickled Pink story over at Oven Love, I'll give you a quick history lesson.

The Rut: I graduated with a PR degree at Temple University in Philadelphia. I married my high school sweetheart and moved with him to Dayton, OH. He is stationed here for a Master's degree, I was determined to find a PR job. But, economy as is, nothing happened.

The Idea: While I was in Philly for my brother's wedding, it hit me. I love to bake. I like to start things on my own (see: PRowl PR, the student-run PR firm I started at TU). Cupcakes are trendy and delicious. I should really start a cupcake business in Dayton!

The Plan: I decided I wanted to start a home bakery, since this was my first foray into the baking world and we can't quite afford retail space at the moment. There's a great market in downtown Dayton (2nd Street Market), so the plan is to become a vendor there, and then do custom orders as well.

The Testing: A good product is absolutely key, so I worked for about a month to perfect my core recipes and work on my presentation. You can check out all of my cupcake testing (and anything else cupcake related) here! Now I'm confident that I have some great recipes to share with the world.

The Brand: The vendor application is in and the testing is complete, now I'm focusing on the Tickled Pink Brand. My talented graphic designer (not to mention, amazing friend!) Keith has been working diligently to help me craft an identity. (Follow him here on Twitter.) There will definitely be plenty of updates to come!
